Ok uz guyz..... Here are some pics of the new shop and me after six months of NOT having to shave or cut my hair. Here is the Shop. And another angle of the building and lot. The lot is 150 X 150 and one block off the main drag. The shop building is 3600 square feet and has four main rooms. You can see the 12 X 24 shed on the side. That is for storing tires, core stock, and crap that I won't worry about getting really cold or really hot. Here is a picture of the shop floor. The main entrance is on the right side (back towards the hose) and there is a half wall that runs about two thirds of the way down to separate the shop from the other rooms. One thing on the agenda is to improve the plumbing and get a tap on the opposite corner of the shop. The spigot at the door is the only one in the entire building. Still looking the same direction (what I consider the front of the shop) but from the opposite corner. You can see the office with the light on and the room to the right of that (big window without light on) will be the retail room. Starting at the back of the shop and working our way around clockwise, there is the Bay door, Hot Tank, and Jet Wash. What you can't see because of the Jet Wash is the Clark Forklift that is against the wall. Superman (the forklift) is old and leaks oil bad so I gotta throw some seals in the rams but other than that he works great. I don't have a heater on the tank, just soak the stuff longer and keep it high on base side. The Jet Wash heats up to about 180 degrees and really blasts the last of the crap off. Then is my ole parts washer. It kinda stays there but it is on wheels so I move it around to where I need it. You will also notice the air chuck in the wall. The entire building has in wall air lines (steel pipe) and chucks are about every three or four feet. The only rooms that do NOT have air are the office and crapper. Next is my old Atlas 10F lathe. Good ole machine as long as ya give her TLC every once and awhile. Then it is the Van Norman Power Hone. Pretty much anything thirty thou or less I just run it through the hone. To the right of the Hone is the Sister Boring Bar. I can deck blocks or heads on this baby. I have tooling to punch from 1 7/8 up to 6 inch bores. To the right of that and behind is the mechanical area of the shop. The building has full radiated floor heat (NICE!!!!). and in front of that is the Seat Cutting machine. This is a TCM-25 with floating air table and variable speed dial on the DRO. Again notice the air chucks, outlets, and the banks of lights above everything. To the right of the Seat Grinder is the Head station Bench and to the right of that the Kwick Way Valve grinder. I have a full selection of stones under that cart for just doing a stone cut on seats or I can put them in the machine. Behind the tool chest you can just make out the top of the tumbler and beside that is the deep sink. Next up is the Rod Reconditioning Station. Full Sunnen rod hone and more mandrels that I know what to do with, Rod Straighting jig, Rod and Piston heater, and finally a rod cap grinder. My diamond wheel for sharpening the carbide bits is also on this table as is the Drill Doctor. To the right or behind the rod station is the new MC Lift table. Oh and that is me six months after not shaving or hair cut. Kinda got furry huh? This shot kinda wraps up the main shop floor. You can see the corner of the lift at the bottom left. My welding table is behind the lift. That table is solid 1/4 inch everywhere. Behind that you can see the door to the compressor/blasting/storage room. That is my ole Mig under the table with the new Tig. Haven't played with the Tig yet but soon. This is the Compressor room. I now have three media blast cabinets. One has glass beads, one has the "baking soda" for aluminum auto heads, and the third will be getting walnut hulls or something like that for fine finishing. And of course a new shop REQUIRED a new shop Dog. That is Thumper. He is a true "Dubois Rodeo Dog"...meaning I got him at the rodeo. He is young (six months) but smarter than hell. He has staked a claim to the shelf under the Rod Station. He can see the entire shop and only has to move about three feet to see who has come in the door. And finally one last shot of my hairy state...lol. And of course the big coffee pot. So now ya'll know I ain't been gaffen ya off, just busier than hell getting this thing set up. |

Open now!!!
Skooter, those are my "bread and butter" heads...lol. They are Ford 460s off of natual gas compressors. I have ten to get done right now. If the company likes the work I could end up with a contract for the entire rocky mountain area. That could be 10-20 heads a month.
Kenny, the Van Norman bar and hone really make life easy. I talked to Ray, the guy I bought the shop from, and he was tellen me that he used to put a board or piece of plate with a small hole in the center under MC cylindars and let them fill up with oil to keep that heat problem down. Think I'll try that before I build the base clamps. |
